Sister Rosaleen Sheridan RSHM, died at Marymount Convent, Tarrytown, NY, on Tuesday, April 27, 2021.

Sister Rosaleen Sheridan RSHM, previously known as Sister Kostka, died at Marymount Convent, Tarrytown, NY, Tuesday, April 27, 2021. She was 88 years of age and had been a member of the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary for 71 years.

She was born in Co. Cavan, Ireland, on September 2, 1932, to Patrick and Annie McCannon Sheridan.

She received a BA from Marymount College, Tarrytown, NY; studied Italian at the University of Perugia, Italy; Catechetics at Corpus Christi College, London, England; and earned an MA in Psychology from University College Dublin, Ireland.

She entered the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary in Tarrytown, NY, on February 7, 1948. She made her first vows on February 11, 1950, in Tarrytown, and made her final vows at the RSHM Mother House in Béziers, France on August 29, 1955.

Sister Rosaleen began her years of ministry as a teacher at St. Anne’s School, Garden City, NY (1950-1952) and Marymount School of New York (1952-1953).

She taught at Istituto Marymount, the RSHM Italian school in Rome, Italy for thirteen years (1953-1966). She then went to Lombardi, Italy, where she ministered in social work and adult education at the parish of San Carlo Borromeo in Cibrone (1966-1969).

She was a parish social worker during the three years she studied at Corpus Christi College, London, England, and University College Dublin, Ireland (1969-1972).

Sister Rosaleen returned to Italy in 1972 and began a 44-year ministry in education at the Marymount International Schools in Rome, Italy, and London, England. She taught and was a guidance counselor at the school in Rome (1972-1980 and 1987-1990), and at the school in London (1980-1987) and was the head of school in London (1990-2003). Her final years of active ministry were in the guidance department at the school in Rome (2003-2012).

While living in Rome, she was also very involved in the English-speaking communities at Santa Susannah and St. Patrick’s Church.

She retired from active ministry in 2012 and moved to Marymount Convent, Tarrytown, NY. She was a member of the Convent community at the time of her death.

Sister Rosaleen is survived by a sister in Ireland, by sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews in Ireland and the United States, and by the members of her religious community.

    I so loved Sr Rosaleen during my years at Marymount Rome 1974-78. She always had good advice and time for me. Rest in peace
