Sr. Carolyn (Sr. de Lourdes) Roesel, RSHM, died on Friday, October 4, 2019 at Westchester Medical Center, White Plains, NY.  🙏❤️

Born in Sagaponack, NY, on February 9, 1923, she entered the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary in Tarrytown, NY in 1944.

Sr. Carolyn taught at the Academy of the Sacred Heart of Mary in Manhattan. She served in the ministry of education in Tarrytown for 28 years, as librarian and later superior and principal of  Marymount Secondary School and as a librarian at Marymount College.

She was curriculum director at Stuart Country Day School of the Sacred Heart in Princeton, NJ. After retiring, she helped a group of parents create the Princeton Academy of the Sacred Heart for their sons.

She served on the Boards of Trustees of Marymount College, Marymount School in Richmond, VA, Marymount School of New York and the Princeton Academy.

She is survived by her sister, Catherine Roesel Bishop, numerous nieces and nephews, and by the members of her religious community.

Services at Marymount Convent, 32 Warren Avenue, Tarrytown, NY.

  • Wake Tuesday, October 8,  4:00 – 7:30 pm, Vigil Service 7:30 pm.
  • Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday, October 9, 10:30 am. Burial Mount Calvary Cemetery, White Plains.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in her name may be made to Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary, 50 Wilson Park Drive, Tarrytown, NY, 10591.
